Two timed runs from installing the CLI to a landing decision on a real repository, with branches from Claude Code and Codex, including the wrong turns.
16 October 2026 · released 1.3.1 · run 2, filmed
The product film repeats run 2 below on the released 1.3.1, installed with npm i -g pytxo into a fresh npm prefix: a fresh clone of mri at 62b9ce4 with the same two agent commits, Claude Code's 2534fe2 and Codex's ec1701b. A script typed each command on screen and ran it as typed.
| Command | Time | Result |
|---|---|---|
npm i -g pytxo | 51.2 s | 1.3.1 installed, including the 29.9 MB binary download, on a slower connection than on 15 October |
pytxo land claude:claude/rename-helper codex:codex/negated-flags --check "npm install && npm test" --per-input | 57.7 s | BLOCKED: both branches pass alone; the combined check fails and 1.3.1 prints ReferenceError: toVal is not defined under it |
git rebase the Codex branch onto the Claude branch, toVal( → assign(, commit | 2.0 s | |
same pytxo land command | 58.4 s | READY |

15 October 2026 · released 1.3.0 · Claude Code and Codex
Two runs on lukeed/mri at 62b9ce4, a small, widely used argument parser whose tests run 84 assertions. Each run started from a fresh npm prefix, a fresh Pytxo home and a clean clone. Claude Code 2.1.299 (claude -p) and Codex CLI 0.159.3 (codex exec -s workspace-write) each worked on their own branch from a one-paragraph prompt. Codex's sandbox keeps .git read-only, so its changes were committed by hand with the agent's own message.
Times are command times on Windows 11 with 15.5 GB of RAM, measured as each command ran. Every decision below has a receipt in the run record.
Run 1: two features, and a check that could not run
Claude Code added minimist-compatible options['--'] (79 s); Codex made --key= an empty string (190 s). The steps follow the docs as they were on that day.
| Command | Time | Result |
|---|---|---|
npm i -g pytxo@1.3.0 | 22.7 s | installed |
pytxo --version | 0.3 s | 1.3.0 |
pytxo land … --check "npm test" --per-input | 10.4 s | BLOCKED: every check failed, no reason shown |
pytxo land … --check "npm ci && npm test" --per-input | 13.7 s | BLOCKED: mri has no lockfile |
pytxo land … --check "npm install && npm test" --per-input | 73.1 s | READY |
Install to the correct decision: 96.1 s of command time. The two BLOCKED results were the check's fault, not the branches': a check runs in a fresh worktree where nothing is installed. 1.3.0 did not say so. 1.3.1 prints the failing line ('bundt' is not recognized…), notes that the check failed on every branch alone, and suggests --check "npm install && npm test".
Run 2: each branch passes alone, the combination fails
Claude Code renamed the internal helper toVal to assign (70 s). Codex routed --no- flags through toVal (200 s).
| Command | Time | Result |
|---|---|---|
npm i -g pytxo@1.3.0 | 29.9 s | installed |
pytxo land claude:claude/rename-helper codex:codex/negated-flags --check "npm install && npm test" --per-input | 79.0 s | BLOCKED: both branches pass alone, combined FAIL exit 1 |
git rebase the Codex branch onto the Claude branch, change the call to assign(, commit | 1.2 s | fix commit 0a1447b |
same pytxo land command | 68.9 s | READY |
same command with --apply | 57.0 s | LANDED: one merge commit per branch, ddae178 |
pytxo receipts | 0.6 s | blocked, ready and landed receipts listed |
On 1.3.0 the reason, ReferenceError: toVal is not defined, was only in the receipt. A replay of the same branches on a 1.3.1 build printed it under the combined check, followed by a next line.
What changed because of these runs
- Failed checks print their error lines; a check that fails on every branch alone says the check may be the problem.
- Without
--check, Pytxo suggests one from the project files and does not run it. npm i -g --ignore-scriptsand pnpm 10, which skip install scripts, used to leave no binary. 1.3.1 downloads and verifies it on the first command: 27.8 s and 19.4 s, then 0.6 s.- First landing in 5 minutes was written from these runs.
Still open: sharing the landed receipt needs pytxo login, which timed out twice without a browser approval, so there is no shared receipt link.
npm 11 printed an allow-scripts warning on npm i -g pytxo in these runs. npm 12 skips the script by default, and the first pytxo command fetches the binary instead (checked with npm 12.2.1 on 2026-10-22).
Limits
- Two runs on one small repository on one Windows host. Not a benchmark and not a rate.
- Command times only: reading output and writing the fix are not included. npm's cache was warm for the checks; a cold
npm installof mri took 40.5 s. - Checks passing is not correctness. READY means these commands passed on these exact files.
