Signal Core size
How much smaller Signal Core's structural scaffold is than the source it summarizes, measured in bytes.
Signal Core reads source files with tree-sitter and keeps their structure (signatures, types, imports) while dropping function bodies. Agents get a map of a file before they read all of it.
Measurements
| Date | Corpus | Files | Source bytes | Scaffold bytes | Smaller by |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 Oct 2026 (Pybench, 1.3.0) | Pytxo repository, tracked files ≥ 1 KiB in a Signal language, tests/fixtures/stories/vendor/build excluded | 374 | 5,030,538 | 716,736 | 85.8% |
30 Jul 2026 (commit 3acdc77) | Pytxo production source under crates, services, packages, Desktop and Web, ≥ 1 KiB | 185 | 1,253,675 | 213,847 | 82.9% |
The two rows use different corpus rules and repository states, so they are not a trend. The July record breaks down by language: Rust 88.0%, TypeScript 58.7%, JavaScript 94.3%. Your repository's figure depends on its languages and file shapes.
Reproduce the current figure on any repository with pytxo bench --suite signal --repo <path>.
What it does not claim
- Not a model-token saving. Tokenizer output was not measured.
- Not a cost saving. No provider bill was compared.
- Not a task-success claim. Agent outcome quality was not measured.
- Not a general-repository result. One repository per measurement, on one Windows host.
